Richard Nagy is presenting the first ever retrospective show of the work of Egon Schiele in Hong Kong. This will be exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong.
More than forty museum quality works by the “Bad Boy” of Austrian Expressionist art, including oil paintings, watercolours and drawings, will be exhibited at Richard Nagy, (stand 3E17, from 27-31 March 2019). The exhibition will show the full range of the artist’s genius – his famous erotic paintings of women, his portraits, and his rare landscapes will hang side by side.
This will be the very first time that Egon Schiele will be shown in Hong Kong. Richard Nagy, the leading dealer of his work in the world, has specialised for more than 35 years in the artist, buying and selling the best of his work. There are no galleries in Asia handling the work of Schiele, in fact, no other gallery in the world has the depth and range of his works available, for both top collectors and museums.
Asian collectors are now amongst the most sophisticated buyers and highest bidders privately and at auctions for works by Schiele. As such Richard Nagy is looking forward to having a very favourable reception from his existing Asian clientele and stimulating new collectors in the region.
Schiele is recognised, (along with Picasso), as the greatest draftsman of the 20th Century, with the record price for a work on paper making over US$12 million at auction. Richard Nagy will exhibit works on paper valued from US$200,000 to US$13 million.
2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Egon Schiele. The prolific Austrian expressionist was celebrated with numerous exhibitions in some of the most important art museums worldwide, including The Metropolitan Museum, New York; Neue Galerie, New York; Leopold Museum, Vienna; Belvedere, Vienna; Tate, Liverpool; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Royal Academy, London. Many of these same museums consulted Richard Nagy to source important loans from his own collection and his clients.
Richard Nagy, coming from a family of collectors, has been dealing in the work of Schiele and Modernist art since 1983. His gallery is located in Old Bond Street in Mayfair, London.
